Not Just Creative

Nope, this girl is not just creative with her eating habits...she's sneaky too! We thought since her food was disappearing she was actually eating it. Such fools! As it turns out she was hiding it under her legs and bum. As you can tell by the look on her face, she is not too thrilled that we found her out.

Creative Eater

This is how Lyla eats finger foods when she has a sippy cup at the table with her.

Place piece of food on tip of cup:

Check to make sure food is really stuck on:

Insert into mouth, eat food, and take a sip of water:

Make a silly face (and occasionally spit out food):

Laugh hysterically:

Spring!

Hooray for spring!

Lyla's first Bluebonnet picture.
Lyla with her friend Delaney
Thanks for taking the pics Debbie!

Museum

On Monday, the three of us went to the Children's Museum with our friends Jennee and Max. We had such a great time exploring all of the exhibits and enjoying time with our friends.

Lyla LOVES "driving"! Here she is practicing her bus driving skills and honking the horn.

They had a special singing time in one of the side rooms. June bug loves singing and music!!

They had a fun exhibit that included a music stage with a drum set. Lyla looked like a pro.

Playdates

Wednesday and Thursday were fun days for our little busy bee. Wednesday morning we went to the Nature Center with Jennee, Bryan, and Max. This was our first trip there and we loved it! What a neat place! Lyla loved digging in the sand looking for fossils. They also have a "mini zoo" of sorts including rabbits, a coyote, foxes, fish, snakes, and other native animals. I can't believe it is free to get in there!

On Wednesday afternoon we had a lunch/playdate with some of my teacher friends and their kiddos. It ending up being more for us since all the little ones fell asleep including Lyla who was so pooped from the days activities that she fell asleep in my arms (which was so wonderful since she hasn't done that since she was a newborn!)

On Wednesday we invited Debbie and little Delaney to join us for yoga. Lyla and Delaney are the cutest little yogis! Debbie caught this pic of Miss Lyla standing on her own. She is getting closer and closer to walking each day.

Celebrity

Lyla met her first celebrity today!

Tyler Florence was at Central Market today doing a book signing and promotion of his new line of Sprout baby food, so we popped in to meet the man behind the only baby food Lyla goes nuts over. Lyla was quite star-struck as you can see.

Botanical Garden

I thought I would take Lyla out to enjoy the beautiful weather before it gets yucky tomorrow. We went to the botanical gardens and were surprised at how beautiful it was! I had been there once before several years ago, but didn't get to tour the entire grounds. It was so nice! Our favorite part was the prehistoric gardens where there was a beautiful pond and waterfall.

There were tons of Snapdragons blooming all over the gardens.

So big!

They have a lovely little butterfly garden where we ran into my old coworker/friend Jack who is the horticulturist in charge of that garden. It was a surprise to see him there...especially to find out he had been working there for several years!

Funny Faces

One of Lyla's favorite things to do is to stand at the front and back door and look out at someone on the other side. She laughs hysterically and presses her face against the window to give you kisses. So, I brought the camera with me and tried to capture some of her smooshed funny faces. She is such a character!

10 Months Old

Our little girl is now 10 months old! She didn't have an "official" birthday last month since there are only 28 days in February but we celebrated anyhow!

It has been amazing watching out little June bug grow these past few weeks. She is at a very fun age right now where she is learning new things every day and is really starting to get quite a personality all of her own. Her favorite things to do right now are point and wave. She will spot someone across the street long before I do and point to them until I notice. Then we wave "hello" and "good bye". A couple days ago she started playing "peek-a-boo" which is absolutely hilarious. She will hide behind a chair or hold a napkin over her face and play as long as you will.

Probably the biggest change she has gone through has happened in the past few days. On Tuesday she woke up and decided she was hungry! We were concerned with her lack of interest in food (one can not survive on puffs alone) so we called the doc and got some advice. Well it worked and for three days she has been eating like a champ. She even ate portabello mushrooms and eggplant off of our plates at a restaurant! And tonight she asked for food for the first time when she saw me eating yogurt. We've also discovered a baby food that she absolutely loves called Sprout. It costs a bit more than the other brands we have been buying, but in a way, we have saved more money on the Sprout baby food since she actually eats it and doesn't waste jar after jar because she hates the taste.

Kite Festival

We went to the Kite Festival today! I have been wanting to go for the past 5 years and we finally made it down there, of course, it was extra special to be able to take Lyla on our first time!

There were hundreds of kites painting the sky. Our favorite was an enormous inflated kite that had to have been over 50 feet long. It never got too high, but it was really neat to see it flying even 15 feet above the ground.

We bought Lyla a Buzz Lightyear kite at Target just for this event. We got it up pretty high until the wind died down and it got tangled up with a few other kites and then crashed to the ground.

We had a great time but we think that Lyla's favorite part was the bus ride there and back. She thought it was pretty cool to not have to ride in a car seat for the first time.
